Assistant Professor of Emerging Media and Communications

The School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Emerging Media and Communication (EMAC) with a focus on Social Media and Networked Communication. Applicants should have a desire not only to conduct research but also to manage collaborative projects exploring the applications of new media.

The successful applicant will have a deep understanding of the contemporary networked media landscape and a PhD in Journalism, Communication, or a related field. Expertise in at least one of the following areas is required: Social media, online communities and culture, youth media, networked communication, or new media and globalization. The finalist will have a strong commitment to publishing, undergraduate and graduate teaching, interdisciplinary education, participation in research projects, and professional academic service.

EMAC is a new program that seeks to prepare students to be effective producers and critics of existing and emerging media. The degrees (BA, MA) balance technological expertise with critical approaches. Dallas, the fifth largest media market in the United States, presents a significant opportunity to impact the developing digital arena.

The School of Arts and Humanities offers an interdisciplinary program built on four interrelated areas: Literary Studies, Historical Studies, Aesthetic Studies (including Art and Performance), and Arts and Technology. The academic philosophy of the School emphasizes the fusion of critical with creative thinking as well as linkages among various modes of knowledge and artistic expression.
